Recording As An Art

When building our recording mobile we had a number of goals on our mind:

 


FIRST GOAL: THE BEST ACOUSTIC ON THE MARKET
  When recordings are done outside of a studio or broadcasting station there are several good reasons for this intention. Often the atmosphere is an intrinsic part of the event - sometimes it's the exceptional acoustic of a room or hall that makes an event so special. But in order to "catch" an acoustical atmosphere it has to be precisely captured in a recording truck. With the standard recording trucks available on the market this was possible only under difficulties. This is why we have built an own truck. In cooperation with the acoustic division of Fraunhofer Institute, Stuttgart, we managed to construct an outstanding audio control room. Specially developed absorbers enable you to work within a range between 20 kHz right down to 30 Hz lineary - completely revolutionary in mobile sound technology.



SECOND GOAL: WORKING LIKE IN A STATIONARY AUDIO STUDIO
Of course you have to make compromises. In a mobile recording studio there can't be as much space as there is in a regular studio. The Thein Recording Mobile enables 6 people to work without being cramped for room. Two windows ensure that you can keep contact with the "outside world" - a necessary comfort without any negative consequences as the windows are sound-proof. There is a second working place for the producer or technician/assistant and enough space for spreading out a score. "True-lite" (daylight) lamps and harmonious colours make you forget that your working place is on wheels. We used only dust- and odour-free acoustic material and we've deliberately cut out the use of rock wool. As a result we've reached biologically impeccable and functional working comfort. This comfort shows - and after long hours of recording you can even hear it - in this atmosphere you're not exhausted quickly.



THIRD GOAL: HIGHEST STANDARD OF TECHNICAL QUALITY
  The main item of the central control room is an ADT desk - a product we also use in our studio. The Thein Recording Mobile is equipped with the series 5MT, a classical In-Line-console with 68-channel and a complete dynamic section per channel, 5-VCA-groups, VCA-stereo-compressor, five stereo-returns, stereo basis control and an elyptic equalizer expand the possibilities in the master module. With this high quality console you can work precisely on multitrack or stereo recordings. For multitrack recording facilities you can choose between digital or analog/dolby SR. FOURTH GOAL: COMPATIBILITY TO RADIO AND TELEVISION
The truck is built to the standard of IRT (german institute for broadcast technics), all ins and outs are transformer-balanced and isolated. For special demands of radio- and TV-stations there is a broadcast line level amplifier, various direct-outs, broadcast limiter, video-synch, stereo-machines and all necessary intersections to TV broadcasting trucks and time code link. The driver's cab can also be used as an "Interview-studio" for reports. This is why also radio and TV stations are in good hands with us.

 

FIFTH GOAL: NO PROBLEMS WITH CONNECTIONS
You know the problem: with all the time spent on the roads and motorways even electronics masterpieces can be put out. This is why the solid ADT console was additionally optimized for travelling purposes. The core channels are equipped only with the best core material available. Our 14-ton truck has an air-suspension because we don't want constant jerking to undermine safe contacts. The 8 x 130 meter multicore and the videocables are winded on motor-drums, a special earth separation with high-voltage transformers (110-240 V) protects from unpleasant connections, the central heating & air-condition system is good for technic and for their users. Using our "on-board-kitchen" the crew can supply themselves with hot tea, coffee or a meal - which is always welcome! The satellite-alarmsystem prevents unwanted connections - e.g. with thieves. Mobile phone and walkie-talkie finally allow wanted connections!

 

OUR MAIN GOAL: AN EXCELLENT RECORDING TOOL

  The Thein Recording Mobile is designed to offer the ultimate potential in audio work that can only stand comparison with a stationary top-class studio. CD-recordings, live-recordings, classic productions, radio broadcasting, "sound for picture" on TV-, film- and video-sector, outside-synchronisation and mobile audio control room - these are the many uses of our recording truck. 15 years of experience and continuously rising demands in our profession were the deciding factors for constructing the truck. It meets our demands of a first-class tool and its qualities have raised quite a few eyebrows in exactly the direction we always wanted to move the quality of mobile productions: way up!
